Clearly the strokes were influenced by television. Damn even 30 years later this band still sounds amazing schick.

Thought this was modern when I first heard it, very surprised to find out it's almost 40 years old!

There's nothing punk about this masterpiece. I love the Ramones, Pistols, all that -- this has more to do Coltrane, Hendrix, and cats whose names I do not know. I ain't waitin' uh uh....

The beginning of that long solo/instrumental part is just sublime, all sortsa heavenly. Actually, the whole song is just that, but the first lingering notes Verlaine plays get me every time... not to mention the guitars like seagulls at 8:40 and onwards... like I said, this song is just pure brilliance from the get-go, but some parts just stick out. I think this album, and this song in particular are the closest any rock band has ever come to matching some of the great jazz improvisations by Coltrane etc.

*Marquee moon* *Television* *february 8 1977* I remember how the darkness doubled I recall, lightning struck itself I was listening, listening to the rain I was hearing, hearing something else Life in the hive puckered up my night The kiss of death, the embrace of life There I stand 'neath the Marquee Moon Just waiting I spoke to a man down at the tracks And I asked him how he don't go mad He said "Look here junior, don't you be so happy And for Heaven's sake, don't you be so sad" Life in the hive puckered up my night The kiss of death, the embrace of life There I stand 'neath the Marquee Moon Hesitating Well a Cadillac, it pulled out of the graveyard Pulled up to me, all they said, "Get in" Then the Cadillac, it puttered back into the graveyard Me, I got out again Life in the hive puckered up my night The kiss of death, the embrace of life There I stand 'neath the Marquee Moon I ain't waiting I remember how the darkness doubled I recall, lightning struck itself I was listening, listening to the rain I was hearing, hearing something else
