I believe I understand how the trick was done. I think he holds the card with on edge under the thumb nail. It sounds impossible but I have seen my father do so.

I agree with you totally. I got quite a laugh when this guy arrogantly proclaimed that Vernon did it with the Tenkai palm and confidently calls this trick 'crap.' While the secret is simply and elegant, as was everything that the Professor did, and he did invent the Tenkai palm (inspired by a related move by Tenkai himself) it is definitely not the Tenkai palm.
