monokhem: the gaps are mostly due to poor planning - and budget cuts, not anything else. And, right now, the US has no manned space capability and not that much cargo capability either - the International Space Station is being supplied by Russian and European spacecraft. The fact the SpaceX folks can supply the ISS for a tiny fraction of what NASA will spend duplicating SpaceX's effort with the Senate Launch System makes it evident NASA is not operating properly.

The Space Shuttle was not the space program. We can get people and cargo into space. There is always a gap between vehicles. Without the gaps we would be stuck with the same thing we were using in the 60's and would never have had the shuttle or built the ISS. The Shuttles were never meant to last this long either.

Even the guy in the scaffolding stopped to take a look!

With Nasa working along side European, Russian etc counterparts they are perfectly able to get people and cargo to and from the ISS.

Yea.Rub it in, tear down three well crafted, working space shuttles. Let's put them on static display all over the U.S. Now we have no way to get people or cargo into space.Right. Sure. What is everyone so happy about? You just saw your space program go into moth balls.

Astronauts used T-38s to keep up with their flying time.
Mikes1800 (el 17/04/12 a las 7:48 pm)
Not a fighter aircraft but a T38 trainer probably flown by astronauts.

You're ridiculous, do you even realize that ? Maybe you think that every commercial jets have fighter escort. But you're probably too young and ignorant anyway to know what happened that day (i'm not talking about watching conspiracy videos). |
